MEMORIES OF THE SPACE AGE

In this work I reflect on the Shuttle’s pluralism and eventual termination through photographs of the launch of Shuttle Discovery STS-116 and its ephemera at Kennedy Space Center. By titling photographs after a Hawkwind album, a tourist breakfast excursion with a living astronaut, a Buckminster Fuller utopian prototype for the future, and excerpts of short stories from the 1988 collection of J. G. Ballard short stories, “Memories of the Space Age,” I invoke previous generations faded ambitions as signifiers for contemporary "End Times."
